Penalties for late submission of work

Marks will be deducted for work that is submitted later than the stated deadline without reason. The penalty is calculated on a scale, dependent on the number of days late the work is submitted. Full details of the penalty calculation are made available in the Student Handbook:

Late Submission of Work

A late penalty CAN bring a student's mark below a 'pass' mark.

Penalties for over/under length assessed work

Marks will be deducted for work that exceeds or falls short of the stated word count or word range. The penalty calculation varies for standard coursework, Undergraduate Dissertations and Postgraduate Dissertations. Full details of the penalty are made available in the Student Handbook:

Word Count Penalties

Word count penalties applied to assessed coursework will NOT reduce a grade below a Pass mark.

E.g. Postgraduate student coursework mark of 51 and a 3 mark word count penalty. Final mark can only be reduced by 1 penalty point to 50.

Penalties for non-inclusion of ethics documentation in Postgraduate Dissertation

Marks will be deducted for Postgraduate Dissertations where the required ethics documentation is not included in the submission. Full details of the penalty are made available in the Student Handbook:

Ethics Documentation Penalties

Ethics penalties applied to assessed coursework will NOT reduce a grade below a Pass mark.

E.g. Postgraduate student coursework mark of 52 and a 3 mark ethics penalty. Final mark can only be reduced by 1 penalty point to 50.

Ordering of Penalties

If a piece of work is subject to ethics and/or word count penalties as well as a late penalty, please apply the late penalty BEFORE applying the word count/ethics penalties.
